The Place and Role of the Father’s Image Kazakh Prose

Abstract

The period from 1960 to 1990 marked a significant phase in Kazakh prose, reflecting the fundamental transformation of society, socio-political circumstances, and the preservation of national values. During this time, father figures in prose were portrayed not only as heads of the family but also as the spiritual backbone of the nation, guardians of historical memory, and key representatives of generational continuity. The father is a vital figure in any era and in any society, serving as a clear example of wisdom and prudence. Therefore, the image of the father holds a special place in literature. This article focuses on the multifaceted representation of the father figure in national literature. The works of Kazakh writers analyze the social functions of the father figure in traditional Kazakh society, his role as a model for younger generations, and his spiritual essence. Through the depiction of fathers in these works, the values of national identity and generational continuity are explored. Changes in father-child relationships and their impact on family structures and the broader spiritual and social landscape of society are also examined. This study provides an opportunity to deeply understand the significance of the father figure through the lens of national literature and to reevaluate his role and importance in Kazakh society from a fresh perspective. The article is based on scholarly research in literary studies and aims to familiarize readers with the importance of the father figure in Kazakh prose.
