This article examines the role of folklore in shaping ethical norms of behavior. The author also notes that heroic epic works such as «Manas» play a special role in shaping moral and ethical norms in Russian and Kyrgyz societies. Folklore, as a rich treasury of oral folklore, plays a crucial role in shaping ethical norms of behavior in society. Folklore, created over centuries and passed down orally from generation to generation, influences people’s consciousness, shaping their worldview and values. Through legends, fairy tales, proverbs, and bylinas, people preserve their history, culture, and traditions and pass them on to future generations. Folklore always depicts the struggle between good and evil, justice and injustice, extolling high human qualities through the examples of heroes.

Through the behavior and speech of folk tale characters, young listeners and students learn to distinguish between good and evil and make the right decisions. Folklore is based on moral values such as loyalty, patriotism, hard work, generosity, and kindness.

Moreover, folklore places special emphasis on family values, relationships between people, and mutual assistance within society. The family is viewed as a fundamental institution of society, and issues such as respect for parents, raising children, and love and trust between spouses are explored. Qualities such as social harmony, unity, and compassion are reflected in folklore, encouraging people to help and support one another.
